those examples of adaptations that have helped us thrive for 100 years. That adaptation and innovation continues to this day — over the past three years, we’ve produced a new product or product enhancement every month on average. THE COMPANY HAS HAD A LOT OF MAJOR INNOVATIONS IN THE LAST CENTURY? WHAT ARE A FEW STANDOUTS TO YOU? There is really so much to be proud of over those 100
I’m proud to play the French horn in a community band and occasionally play with fellow Shure associates. For example, we welcome people to our headquarters dur- ing our holiday event with an instrumental performance of holiday songs played by our associates and me. THAT SOUNDS SO FUN. DO THE MUSICIANS ON STAFF AT SHURE HAVE INPUT IN THE PRODUCT THEMSELVES? We have some really talented associates at Shure.
years from a product standpoint. But some of the few standouts include: Shure’s Model 55 Unidyne Micro- phone in 1939 was the world’s first single-element unidirectional dynam- ic microphone. The legendary Shure SM58 (SM for “studio microphone”) was introduced in 1966 and is still the standard today. In 1990, Shure L-Series Wireless Microphones were introduced, which led Shure to be- come a global leader in the wireless microphone market. In 2011, we introduced our first all-digital wireless system and pre- viewed the Axient wireless system which launched years later and transformed pro-audio with unparal- leled RF and audio performance. As recently as 2022, a new era of array microphone technology was ushered in with the introduction of the Shure MXA920 Ceiling Array Mi -
They are fantastic musicians, engi- neers and DJs. It’s great when they are able to showcase their talents at company events. This is one of the reasons we have been so success - ful — the passion that our associates have for our products. They are users of them too, so they know how impor- tant the stakes are on a stage. WHERE DO YOU HOPE TO SEE SHURE GO IN THE NEXT 100 YEARS? OR EVEN IN JUST THE NEXT FIVE-TO-10 YEARS? Mr. Shure has a famous quote that I walk past every day in our headquar - ters: “We know very well that abso - lute perfection cannot be attained, but we will never stop striving for it.” He set forth important core values that we here at Shure still follow to this day. ers and channel partners, we envision Shure will con - tinue to be a leader in the audio industry for the next 100 years. NOW FOR A FUN QUESTION: WHAT’S THE LAST SONG YOU STREAMED? The last song I streamed was called “Tombstone Town” by rock band Dorothy, featuring Slash. WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST CONCERT? My first concert was with my little sister and some friends to see Men at Work. THAT’S AMAZING. FINALLY, IF YOU WEREN’T WORKING IN THE MUSICAL INSTRUMENT INDUSTRY, WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU’D BE DOING FOR WORK? If I wasn’t working in the music industry, I think I would have ended up working for some type of manufacturer. When I came out of school, that was the path I was taking — to join a company where we’d be producing some sort of hard goods. MI
crophone. This new innovation led to the world’s first conferencing ceiling array microphone with integrated loudspeaker and IntelliMix DSP for small- and medium- sized meeting rooms. I also don’t want to forget Shure’s Grammy for Tech - nical Excellence in 2003. The Recording Academy pre - sented this to Shure based on the outstanding contribu- tions of technical significance to the recording industry. In 2022, we also won an Emmy in the “Engineering” category for Axient Digital Wireless System. Having a Grammy and an Emmy on display in our headquarters is quite an honor. HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR MANAGEMENT STYLE? The words I would use are inclusive, collaborative and communicative. I like to hear diverging points of view and several alternatives to lead toward a deci - sion. Once the decision is made, the rationale and ap - proach need to be well-articulated. I LOVE THAT.
