Drum manufacturers at NAMM showcased digital technology and new twists on tradition to stimulate the market. — By Ed Enright

D uring The 2026 NAMM Show, drum retailers were buzzing over Yamaha’s new flagship module for electronic acoustic drums, the EAD50, which takes the Yamaha EAD10 module, a revolution in recording drums launched in 2017, to another level. “It’s a mixer, a DTX10 electronic drum kit brain and a microphone system all in one,” said Brett Siskosky, marketing com-

munications specialist for Yamaha. Like the EAD10, the EAD50 benefits from Yamaha R&D in multiple product cat- egories. As Siskosky noted, “We’re able to draw from experience in synthesizers and pull in the sounds and effects that fuel that; from our acoustic drum experience of learn- ing how to mic drums; and then electronics from our pro audio to make the mics. It all

comes together to create a strong product.” Ludwig kicked off what Ulysses Salazar, director of marketing and artist relations, described as “a new era” with the company’s entry into the electronics market with the launch of the Total Percussion Multipad. It’s a budget-priced unit with over 2,000 sounds (many of them proprietary Ludwig samples) and customizable options.
