RETAILER ASK THE ARE THERE ANY HOLIDAY TRADITIONS THAT THE STORE HAS DEVELOPED THROUGHOUT THE YEARS?

“Moving into November and December, we’re looking at Small Business Saturday, Giving Tuesday and our own ‘12 Days of AMP’d.’ Rather than making everything discount- driven, we want to mix promotions with experiences and community involvement. Some of the ideas we’re working on include free workshops like basic string changing, a pedal-building workshop where participants purchase a kit and we build them together, small in-store performances or demos featuring local musicians, holiday open houses, and different daily specials during the ‘12 Days of AMP’d.’ Giving back locally will also be a big part of it. We’re looking at partnering with local organizations for things like food, toy and pet-supply drives.” Kelly Wilson, Owner

“Every holiday season, Vermont Violins runs a 21-day practice club to keep musicians inspired and playing. We also host an annual violin-shaped cookie contest where every customer who buys our special cookie cutter is a winner. Anyone who bakes cookies and sends a photo gets a prize, plus extra credit if they bring a fresh plate into the store. Inside the shop, our staff joins the fun with a friendly competition to see who can

sell the most cookie cutters.”

“December is a busy month and joyous month at Ted Brown Music. It’s a special time to see our work pay off as customers perform in our stores — from trombone and school groups to woodwind and string quartets. A favorite tradition is hosting an after-hours meal at each location. We relax together, celebrate years-of-service awards and share our talents through performances.” Ellie Stevens, Store Manager Ted Brown Music Tacoma, Washington
